As our Manager Software Quality Assurance, you will be responsible for working in a team environment and providing leadership, technical guidance, strategy and supervision of the Software QA team; balancing and prioritizing resource requirements and workloads. This position will liaise directly with both internal and external resources, while participating in the development of strategic and operational plans related to enterprise Software Quality. Requires strategic thinking and planning to provide leadership and expertise throughout the entire QA lifecycle, ensuring the success of the team by providing regular direction, mentorship, and positive coaching to QA team members. Experience in testing automation is critical to success in this position.


This position requires weekly onsite work in Omaha, NE

Detailed Description

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Recruits, hires, directs, coaches and mentors team members to ensure engagement and productivity levels are maintained; provides regular and consistent feedback and communication throughout the year and during performance reviews
  2. Oversees and performs the design, development and documentation of test plans, scenarios and scripts
  3. Ensures QA staff performs complex functional, system, performance, data, integration and regression/acceptance testing to support internal applications, customer-facing websites and related back-office applications that enable the organization to deliver, high-quality software services to customers
  4. Ensures QA team adheres strictly to the QA related portions of the OTC SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) process, including requirements/design review and evaluation, detailed test plan and test case development and execution, metric reporting and product readiness
  5. Ensures the completion and archiving of associated quality records
  6. Prepares activity, progress and status reports regarding software QA activities for review by senior and executive IT leadership
  7. Ensures detailed reports on issues identified in QA testing, including steps to reproduce defects are provided to project and operational team(s)
  8. Partner with IT leadership to engage with 3rd party vendors, or partners to ensure interfaces are tested, diagnose and resolve issues, and ensure UAT is complete
  9. Works closely with software development staff, release engineers, business analysts, project managers, database developers and product owners to diagnose technical and quality issues, identify potential software limitations, resolve defects and verify corrective actions
  10. Collaborates with developers to improve overall product quality by emphasizing defect prevention throughout the development process
  11. Provides executive summaries and QA status reports, including key quality assurance and other IT metrics
  12. Provides technical guidance related to software quality assurance and how testing solutions may be exploited for the benefit of the business
  13. Evaluates, recommends and implements, software testing tools and related service providers for their value to the organization, including defect management, test automation; web, C/S and mobile testing tools and strategies
  14. Assists in identifying potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed
  15. Champions change initiatives undertaken by the organization by leading and energizing others in such strategies
  16. Manages the QA test environments
  17. Work in the Information Technology Department office environment requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors
  18. Serves as a source of QA software testing standards and metrics in support of IT Governance and OTC
  19. Works with IT leadership to establish and/or improve effectiveness and efficiency of industry-best practices and QA standards, processes, and procedures, to ensure software quality and successful process-audits
  20. Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  21. Abides by all policies and procedures of Oriental Trading Company
  22. Work requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors
  23. Must be able to attend face to face meetings on short or little advance notice

    • Solid understanding of software development, infrastructure, QA software tools and concepts



    • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • CSTM (Certified Software Test Manager) or comparable certification preferred.



    • Minimum of eight years’ experience in software testing, including three years of direct supervisory experience
    • Demonstrated experience testing electronic commerce related web sites, as well as front end and backend application system testing
    • Knowledge and applied use of test tools, (including automated test suites), such as QTest, HP QTP, or Selenium
